Denise’s wish to pursue making art at the age of 15 years was not fulfilled until 44 years later. Aged 59, Denise studied through Curtin University, receiving her Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts and Visual Culture. After settling in Ballarat in 2017 Denise began to spend time with like-minded people and joined the Ballarat Society of Artists and two other painting groups. One is Sebastopol and the second in Wendouree.
As well as winning awards and competitions, Denise’s first solo exhibition of timber scroll work titled, “White Works” was held in the Caboolture Art Gallery’s Hub Space in 2015.
In 2018 Denise was introduced to lino cut printing and has taken to it like a duck to water. After lino cut came dry point printing and she now finds many printing techniques hold a fascination for her. Denise’s love of flora and fauna, the figure, and statues photographed during her travels inspire her.
Why does Denise paint? She paints because she must. It is her way of communicating to others, the world around her.
