Barry Walters

Barry Walters    (1939 –  )

Barry’s working life was spent travelling all over Australia as a shearer. Whilst shearing in Esperance, Western Australia, he attended drawing classes at night school.  His love of old sheds and landscapes were some of his first drawing subjects, along with portraits of fellow shearers and scenes of everyday life.

Barry returned to Ballarat and attended oil painting classes at the Victorian Artists Society in Melbourne.  Under the tutelage of Shirley Bourne, Barry studied and came to love the tonal manner of art in the style of the Meldrum School.

He now works in various mediums, but predominantly oils and watercolours.  His subjects still include everyday life, landscapes, portraits, wildlife and still life studies.

Barry has been a member of the Ballarat Society of Artists Inc. for many years and continues to exhibit his work in many local and regional shows.  Over the years he has won numerous awards.

He and his wife Nora have been married for 50 years.  They have 2 children, 6 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
