Joan Tallent

Joan has enjoyed drawing from childhood but did not start painting until her late 30s, early 40s.  The intervening years had been fully occupied with raising a family and a career as a

Health Professional. A transition from sketching with charcoal to painting with pastels seemed a natural step. Later Joan added oil painting to the mix, (using water-mixable oils)

and these days is equally drawn to using both mediums. Joan has also recently been ‘having a go’ at watercolour painting.

Although Joan has had no formal art training she has attended many demonstrations and workshops over the last 20 yrs and is particularly influenced by the French Impressionists

and the Australian Heidelberg School however Van Gogh has to be her all-time favourite artist.

Joan states that there are no  ‘ deep and meaningfuls’ in her artwork—she just paints subjects that appeal to her and as such is inspired by a wide variety of subjects—- still life,

landscapes/seascapes, streetscapes, people, animals, interiors.

Joan has won several prizes for her art over the last 20 yrs, generally in the

Grampians/Central Highlands. Joan is a long time member of the Ballarat Society of Artists

Inc. Australian Guild of Realist Artists Inc. and the Pastel Art Society of Victoria ( Australia).

Joan exhibits with these 3 groups and also in other Art Shows around Victoria and has had

one joint Exhibition in 2013 at Guild House, Camberwell with her friend Kristina Foyster.

Joan has a home studio in Ballarat where her work is on display.
