SUSANNE GRAHAM

I have been working on my art over the last twenty years. My fascination with patterns has developed into unusual black and white works of art, that depict still-life, human form and intricate floral designs. Each of my pieces is unique and complex using patterns that I have collected and developed. I am inspired by nature and the intricate patterns that form naturally even on the smallest leaf. My love of nature and passion for the environment drives me to seek as an artist, to show the beauty and delicacy of the natural world.

I enjoy drawing flora and love the sculptural forms that flowers and leaves present to me. With the use of patterns I can give life and movement and still keep the beauty and delicacy of the flowers. I work mainly with black Artline pens of various sizes sometimes adding colour to emphasise.

I started out as a member of a small studio in Blackburn and have come to view the owner, Julie Batty, as my mentor. She has been instrumental in encouraging me to step out with my art.

I have created all my life, using all forms of textile crafts. I have attended a two year study on four and eight shaft looms through the Spinners and Weavers of Victoria and in 2009 I enrolled to studied Textile Design and Development at RMIT. This has allowed me to expand my work to include textiles with the intention of creating artwork that will flow from the frame into the room. I have also begun to explore the idea of creating work that explores the possibility of combining both drawing and textiles in one piece I moved to Ballarat five years ago and have built a studio at my home in Haddon where I intend to continue my exploration into art, design and textiles.
